National Company Law Tribunal prescribes Dress Code for the Court's members and practitioners


In supersession of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)'s order dated 2.8.2016 and 14.11.2017, and in the exercise of the powers conferred on the Hon'ble President under the Act and the Rules, in particular, Rule 16(f) of NCLT Rules 2016 and in terms of Section 432 of the Companies Act, 2013 read with Rule 51 & Rule 124 of NCLT Rules 2016, the following Dress Code is prescribed:


(i) For President and Members:

  • The dress of the President and Members shall be long trousers (White/Black, Black Striped or Grey), National Dress with a white shirt and collar band with a black coat/buttoned up black coat.

  • In the case of a Female President or a Member, the dress shall be a sober-coloured saree, national dress and collar band with a black coat/buttoned-up black coat.

(ii) For Legal Practitioner:

The Dress Code for Legal practitioners shall be as per the Code prescribed under the Bar Council of India Rules under Section 49(1 )(gg) of the Advocates Act, 1961.


(iii) For Authorised Representative:

Every Authorised Representative viz. Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, and Cost Accountant shall appear in his/her professional dress if any prescribed under their respective code of conduct; and if there is no such dress code prescribed;

  • A male member shall wear a sober-coloured dress or a National dress with a buttoned-up coat, or a Coat with a tie.

  • In the case of a female member, the dress shall be a sober-coloured saree or formal National dress. A suit or buttoned-up coat is optional.

(iv) For IRP/RP/Liquidator:

  • In the case of a male member, the dress shall be a sober-coloured dress or a National Dress, a suit or a buttoned-up coat and tie.

  • In the case of a female member, the dress shall be a sober-coloured saree or national dress. A suit or buttoned-up coat is optional.

(v) For parties in person:

Parties appearing in person before NCLT shall be properly dressed in any national dress and in sober colour.


(vi) All the parties are directed to observe the above to maintain the dignity and decorum of

the Tribunal.
