Justice AIS Cheema has been named as the Officiating Chairperson of NCLAT. Justice Cheema will replace Justice Bansi Lal Bhat who was appointed as Acting Chairperson after the first Chairperson of NCLAT demitted office upon completion of his term in March 2020.
Justice AIS Cheema, Member (Judicial) has been named as the officiating Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) with effect from Sunday. Earlier this year, the term of Justice Cheema as Judicial Member of NCLAT was extended till he attained the age of 67 years on September 21, 2021.
Justice Cheema will replace Justice Bansi Lal Bhat who was appointed as the Officiating Chairperson after the first Chairperson of NCLAT, Justice S. J. Mukhopadhaya, demitted office upon completion of his term in March 2020.
After repeated extensions, the Central government extended Justice Bansi Lal Bhat's term as the officiating Chairperson till he attained the age of 67 years, or until further orders. Justice Bhat turns 67 tomorrow i.e. April 19, 2021.
