IBBI organises Seminar on the occasion of International Women's Day


The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) organised a Seminar today on the occasion of International Women's Day at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, and the theme of the seminar was “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.


In her inaugural address, Mrs. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, observed that women are making a mark in every field, including the Insolvency Profession. Despite hurdles and biases, women have contributed immensely even during these unprecedented Covid times. She shared several anecdotes from her rich experience of over three decades, as a civil servant. Highlighting issues relating to women's empowerment, she noted that women do not demand any special treatment, but the principle of equity demands that they shall get fair and equal opportunity to demonstrate their skill set.


Mr. Ravi Mital, Chairperson, IBBI in his address, mentioned that Women are equally important in each sphere of life, be it economic, social, or cultural aspect, women leave strong imprints on the society; yet women empowerment has just remained a slogan. The mindset must change to give due recognition to the zeal and dedication with which women are making a difference in various spectrums of life in their own way, he added.


Dr. (Ms.) Mukulita Vijayawargiya, in her welcome address, mentioned that over a period, women have not only empowered themselves but have also empowered everyone around. She emphasised the role of women as a source of the value system of society.


The inaugural session was followed by a session on “Sharing Success Stories”. Dr. Deepa Malik, International Para Athlete (Padma Shri & Arjuna Award Winner); Ms. Swarupama Chaturvedi, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India; Mrs. Sudhaben Sureshbhai Patel Vice Chairman, Valsad Milk Union; Ms. Deepika Bhugra Prasad, Insolvency Professional; Ms. Nisha Malpani, Insolvency Professional and Registered Valuer; Ms. Veenu Drall, Youngest Female Insolvency Professional (GIP) addressed the participants and shared their experiences. 6. Besides officers of the Board, key stakeholders, including insolvency professionals, registered valuers and other professionals participated in this Seminar in a hybrid mode.
